Our history
MJS was born in 2011 in Salgar, Puerto Colombia, in response to the lack of public spaces for young people and the neglect of the village's only public sports court. The idea was driven by Steven Pérez Vera: if a community identifies a problem, it can also organize itself to begin transforming it.
- 2011
The movement starts around an abandoned sports court, with cultural, recreational and community activities.
- 2013
It is legally constituted as Fundación Movimiento Juvenil Solidario — MJS. Founders: Hollys Rendón, Leonel Vásquez, Katia Herrera, Luis Palacio Sarmiento, Kelly Otero, Steven Pérez Vera and Kleymer Torres.
- July 4
The symbolic date on which MJS celebrates its birth, although the exact date of the first meeting was not recorded.
- Today
Culture, participation, volunteering, environment, employability and training. More than 300 leaders trained. MJS International connects these learnings with wider stages.
We inherited problems from the past, we act in the present, and we work so that those who come after us receive better opportunities.
